How Facebook Saved Rapunzel

The Witch's Plan

A long long time ago, in a place far far away
Lived an evil witch, she could melt gold into clay.
She had her own secluded hut, she with her ugly pet crow
Nothing else survived around her, as nothing else would grow.

People have only heard of her,or once or twice seen
If she would fly above, grass would turn grey from green.
She was proud people were scared, of the power she had
Even the king was in her control, that is how she was bad.

One day she cried aloud, what she saw in her magic ball
And so it was destined, her magic would fail and she will fall
She tore out her hair in anger, searched through all the books
When the night was over she found the answer, all the hooks.

She would need one from royal blood, for her to keep
Keep the royalty so far away and high up so that no can peep.
That would be her ransom, she would keep them locked away
She would lie to threat, no one must know her magic holds no sway.

And so she despatched her ugly crow, her voice it would carry
The witch demands a sacrifice, some one who is yet to marry
If the King refuses to oblige, all in his kingdom would be dead
There would be none to rule over, in the witches voice the crow said.

The good king was heartbroken, he knew there was no escape
The evil witch would fulfill her threats in every horrible shape
He knew what had to be done, he tried to reason with his wife
he would not fail his subjects, he would rather give away his life.

The queen was crying -You would give away one from your own kin
Only your daughter remains unmarried, you will give her in?
The King said he will not let his daughter be harmed, he had a plan
Once done , the witch would be gone all will be well his kin and his clan.

He summoned the crow to his chambers, he had questions to ask
He had already prepared his soldiers, he had given out their task
He said he accepted the witches demand, lest his kingdom fell
He would give away his only daughter, her name is Rapunzel.

The King's Plan

The king worried about it, he had given it a lot of thought
He was not a coward man ,many battles he had bravely fought
However he was bound by his secret, one crime ridden, filthy and dark
Something he has carried all along, like an invisible ugly mark.

The rise to his current throne, was not part of rightful history
His ascension so quick and sudden it still remains a mystery
Fear of losing what he felt was his right, he sought the witch's hand
When reality did not work he used magic to grab hold of this land.

He was the eldest of the two, a rightful king in the making
His father had favoured his brother, what he wanted was up for taking
There was no point convincing his father, he had to slaughter and kill
He had to murder his brother, it was no ones fault his brothers fate was ill.

So he laid awake late into the night, his hunger for power will be fed
Sneaked into his brother's room, viciously thrust the knife till he was dead
Furious and bloodied as he turned to leave, he looked into his father's face
The old King had suspected it for long, someone will die in this needless race.

Like a coward he ran away to escape, before the old King could react
He got on his horse and galloped away, before everyone knew the fact
The old King gave his orders, his army was out to catch the killer
The King's howls of pain could be heard from afar, they gradually became louder.

His mind was completely chaotic, he could feel his own heart beat
He galloped faster and faster, as the cool night gave away to day's heat
He found himself at a lonely spot, nothing around, only a ruined hut visible
This is where he could hide, hide from a mistake that was so horrible.

Halt before you take next step, said a voice as he crept closer
He drew out his sword and looked around for the conjurer
The voice answered- So you seek to run from what you've done
How can you be King when you are so foolish, retribution escapes none.

The King was amazed, how could the news have travelled so fast
Almost reading his mind the voice said - I know your crime the night past
If you give in to my demands, I have a solution to your predicament
You will get your hearts desire, you do not need to suffer and lament.

So the King and the Witch conferred, they soon came to a pact
The Witch is going to use a spell, she will blind everyone of the fact
The Witch said- There will come a time when I will ask, you cannot refuse
I can take away what I have given you, I will not tolerate any excuse.

So the King returned home, to find a palace filled with sorrow
The younger brother has died of an illness this very morrow
Everybody said the same, even the old King believed the story
He was saved, his heinous crime was erased from everyone's memory.

From that very day, more so from the day he was crowned
He would obey all the witch's orders, despite how people frowned
He knew they will come a time when the King has to pay
But not with the life of his daughter, that will not be the way.

So he called in his General, asked him to prepare as many men
They will follow the Princess and the crow, to the Witch's den
They will rescue the Princess and finish the Witch once and for all
The General must save his family, trusted him with an order so tall.

Rapunzel's Plan

She was their only daughter, they watched her grow with great joy
She was turning out to be truly beautiful, talented, dilligent and coy
Her mother taught her to sing, and her father taught her fighting
Her skills both as a fighter and a singer were reknowned and enchanting.

She had her fathers poise and stature, from her mother her fair skin
She spoke wisely , everyone could feel that there was royalty within
Her eyes were big and brown, in terms of beauty she had got her fair share
Short cut brown hair completed her look, she had it in her to make any man care.

The King called her in one day, said he had a big favour to ask
Rapunzel was scared hearing her father's tone, said she would do any task
The King told her all, from how he got the throne to the demand this day
The King only asked his daughter to trust, he would let no harm come her way.

Rapunzel had tears in her eyes, her father had blood in his hands
Finally she knew , why the King gave in to the witch's every demands
She ran away to her own room, and still crying she took out her android
She logged in to facebook, she wanted run away from her dad, a way to avoid.

I hate my Father, I hate, hate, hate him - she wrote on her fb wall
Her friends from other kingdoms commented, post turned big from small
There were some useless comments, and then Cinderella shared her sad story
All her anger vanished, So moved was Rapunzel by Cinderella's story.

She went to her father, she apologized and agreed to his conditions
Her father assured her safety, soldiers would trail you with ammunitions
Rapunzel fb-ed her current status,- I will be gone for long, dont know where i'll be
There were a couple of likes, a couple of comments and many said- OMG!

So it was decided, rapunzel would follow the crow,go where it goes
The King planned that the army would trail behind quietly behind their foes
As soon as his daughter reaches the witch's lair, the army would sorround
Killing the witch and her crow, rescue the princess and be homebound.

If the King thought he was smart, the witch was even smarter
Knowing the King would try something, so she came up with something better
The witch had explicitly told the crow to start the journey at night
She would use some of her magic powers, before the army could start a fight.

So the crow followed the witch's orders, they walked through the gloom
When the moment was right, the witch came flying atop her magic broom
Before Rapunzel could react she was picked up, higher and higher they flew
Dumbfounded, the army stood useless, the princess was kidnapped in their full view.

Rapunzel knew at that moment no one could save her, this was the end
The life she had and knew would never return, there is no use to pretend
The witch took her to a tower and warned her that she must behave
Trying to escape from the tower is for the fools not for the brave.

So she spent her days in agony, she would cry in her boredom
At nights she would look outside the window, dreaming of her freedom
All she had for company was her android and her friends in facebook
She would read their posts and watch the pics that they recently took.

Then one day she was ecstatic, she had overheard the witch complain
She had lost her powers,no longer can she fly on her broom to get the daily grain
She immediately logged in fb and said- I think i can finally be free
When friends asked her why, 'The witch has no power' she said with glee.

Her friends immediately started a page, it was called Free Rapunzel
Invitations were sent to everyone, number of joinees grew swell
Everybody started discussing how they can get Rapunzel out
However no one can tell where she was hidden, even Rapunzel was in doubt.

So she thought of a plan, and took pictures from the tower top window
She uploaded them in fb, tagged her friends, all could see every land every meadow
Friends in turn tagged their friends, the list kept growing longer and longer
Until a day came when a farmers son said he knew the place, knew the hills yonder

The King was informed, he wanted no mistakes this time, he sent his scouts
They would confirm the farmers story, scouts had the pictures' printouts
And indeed the farmers son was right, atop a hill they could spot a tower
The King was overjoyed, this time he would succeed, he had the power.

So an army was despatched, they knew all the witch could do no harm
Still they did not want to risk, they camped out in the farthest farm
By nightfall their march would begin, they would reach well before dawn
They would climb the towers slowly, then kill the witch before she could break her yawn.

Rapunzel stayed awake the whole night, she knew when they would attack
She ensured the witch was well asleep, she shouldnt hear even the tiniest crack
She watched in aniticpation as the soldiers climbed the steep tower walls
When they entered she cowered in a corner, the witch couldnt even hear the footfalls.

Some men took away the princess, for rescuing her must be a priority
Others proceeded to kill the witch, once and all end her notoreity
Before that day was over, the soldiers would return victorious
The evil witch was dead, Rapunzel was safe, to meet his daughter the King was anxious.

The Princess had returned home and the Kingdom was safe and sound
The King kept his promise , there was hearty celebrations all around
That day even the King joined facebook, to FB he owed the most
'Thank you Mark Zuckerberg', that was his very first post.
